Congrats to Marcus Halsey

Congratulations to Pastor Marcus Halsey who was sworn in as a Chaplain and a First Lieutenant in the Texas National Guard this week at Camp Mabry in Austin.  Mike got to attend the swearing-in ceremony. Please keep Marcus in your prayers as he begins his new ministry to men and women in uniform.

Message from 10/30/11

Christmas Eve Worship @ 4:30 PM

Christmas Eve worship will be at 4:30 PM at Wolfe Elementary School (MAP). We will have a slightly extended Christmas fellowship time prior to the start of the liturgy. So we are encouraging folks to bring along a seasonal snack or two to share. We will not have a service on Sunday, Christmas Day.

PUB THEOLOGY October 16 @ The Boneyard

Our next Pub Theology will be this Sunday, October 16 at 6:00 pm.  This week we’ll be checking out a new venue:

The Boneyard at 8150 Washington Avenue (MAP).  Looks like a great venue for conversation and relaxation. And it’s a dog-friendly environment.

For an initial discussion topic, I’d like to suggest that we look at materialism and how it impacts our lives.  We’ll also take a quick look at some of the things Jesus said about wealth and possessions.  Often I think his words have been interpreted too simplistically, and he said some things that could be really helpful to us in a society of abundance.

But, as always, if you have other topics you’d like to discuss, please bring them to the table.

The weather should be great for an outdoor get-together.  Feel free to bring your four-legged friends.  And bring along a human friend or two as well!

Butch Morgan Live @ Theophilus Oct. 9, 2011

In recent weeks we have been blessed with some amazingly gifted visitng singer-songwriters in our Sunday liturgy. This coming Sunday will be no exception.

Our guest musician on Sunday, October 9 will be Butch Morgan (www.ButchMorgan.com), who is something of a Texas music legend. Butch has played with Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Merle Haggard, and even U2–just to name a few of the artists he has performed with. You will not want to miss this very special treat. It would be wonderful to have as many folks as possible out to support him and welcome him to Theophilus on Sunday.
